-Launching Jackpot Poker in Massachusetts
Paul Sternburg, Executive Director, Massachusetts Lottery
The Massachusetts State Lottery introduced a second monitor game, The Daily Race Game, in FY08 to complement its existing, very successful KENO game. Sales for this game were originally projected at $175 million annually; however, the game never clicked with players and annual sales plateaued at approximately $20 million. After nearly two years of exploring game concepts, focus group testing options, and developing/refining its selection, the Massachusetts Lottery will soon be launching a new second monitor product to replace the underperforming, horse racing-themed Daily Race Game. Called Jackpot Poker, a card-themed Keno game, it will be rolled out at approximately 1,300 lottery retailers before the end of this fiscal year.
-Speaking to customers and looking through their eyes
Gregory Smith, Executive Director, Vermont Lottery
This presentation will focus on interacting with customers – those lotteries already have and those that lotteries do not. How lotteries talk to each group, and what does the lottery offer to them to attract or reward their participation? What marketing decision have lotteries made based on how they respond? Smith will also examine how the customer looks at businesses that they chose to spend money with. Finally, he will talk about some of the industry’s current and near future challenges with i-lottery/i-gaming; keeping your core customers and products while trying to expand; and competing with bordering states when you are small like Vermont.

Insider’s Report: Internet-Streamed Lottery Drawings
Chip Polston, Vice President of Communications, Government and Public Relations, Kentucky Lottery Corp.
In September 2012, the Kentucky Lottery became the first state to voluntarily pull its televised drawing show off broadcast television and switch to Internet streaming. After two decades on their air, the decision to end the TV show had been debated for years with the main concern of lost sales due to negative player backlash (along with negative news media ramifications). This presentation will look at how such a facility can be built at your lottery, the immense cost savings this realized, and the surprising response from lottery players as a result of this transition.
